Root Canal

root canal

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is treatment for an infection of the pulp (nerve) of the tooth. To cure the infection and save the tooth, the dentist drills into the pulp chamber and removes the infected pulp of the root canals. Once this is done, the dentist fills the cavity with material and seals up the opening. This procedure is known as root canal therapy.

After treatment the tooth will be "dead", because the nerves and blood supply have been removed from the tooth. It is best that the tooth is fitted with a crown; this increases the prognosis of the tooth by six times.  The procedure is relatively painless.

While Dr. Platt performs most root canal procedures in our office here in Tyler, occasionally a patient will be referred to a root canal specialist, called an Endodontist, for treatment.
